📌 The Power of Play – Reconnecting with Joy & Creativity

When was the last time you played just for fun? No agenda, no productivity—just pure joy. As kids, play was a natural part of life, but somewhere along the way, we started believing that play was childish or unimportant. The truth is, play isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.

🎭 Why Play is Essential for Growth

We often think of play as something separate from personal development, but creativity, laughter, and movement fuel growth just as much as discipline and structure. Play allows us to:

✅ Reduce stress and bring lightness into our lives.
✅ Tap into creativity and new ways of thinking.
✅ Strengthen relationships through shared joy.
✅ Remind ourselves that life isn’t just about work—it’s about living.

🎭 Play Has Always Been Part of Who I Am

As a little girl and adolescent, I worked hard at playing. I had to figure out a variety of ways to entertain my siblings, all of whom had different interests. My brother was always about movement and projects (still is!), some of my sisters enjoyed role-playing, so drama was always at the forefront, and my youngest sisters loved playing with props, which meant action-based made-up games in my mom’s loooong hallway.

As an adult, this ability to spark playfulness and creativity has continued to serve me well.

  • As a storyteller, I used it as a classroom teacher to hook students into stories we were reading or to bring excitement into writing lessons.
  • As a coach and developer, it helps me with mindset work and vision setting—the words “what if?” always on the horizon as we work on perspective reframes.
  • As a mom, it allows me to bring humor into tense situations when my teenagers are wound up about something, diffusing the moment with a joke or a playful perspective shift.
  • As a partner, it inspires me to think of new ways to keep our synergy alive—planning fun experiences and creative dates that keep things fresh.

In any of these dynamics—family, personal, or professional—you’ll find me telling a story, singing a song, cracking a joke, or reimagining something new and dynamic that sparks joy! My laugh is infectious (or so I’ve been told), and I love to spread its “illness.” Joy is celebratory, and partaking in it is renewing, energizing, and a means to draw goodness towards you.
